How to A/B test a WhatsApp broadcast

1 October 2026 · 4 min read

Broadcasts cost money per message, so a better message pays for itself. An A/B test sends two versions to a small slice of your audience, measures which one people read and reply to, then sends the winner to everyone else.

Setting one up

Choose two approved templates in the same category. Pick the share of your audience for the test (10 to 50%), and how many hours to wait. After that time baseNode compares read rates, then reply rates, and sends the winner to the rest.

What to test

One change at a time: the opening line, an image header or none, the button wording, the offer. If you change everything you won't know what worked.

Combine with smart send-time, which delivers each message at the hour that person usually writes to you.
